If you are hosting an in-person celebration, you already know there are rules and guidelines you have to follow for everyone to stay safe and healthy. These guidelines may seem a bit overwhelming at first, but the truth is, they’re quite simple and very necessary, as we’d all like to get back to our old normal as soon as possible.
By implementing these rules into your event, you’ll make sure you’re hosting a Covid-safe gathering while still being able to have fun with your family and friends.
Here are the essentials:
This one’s an important one. We know it won’t be easy to cut some people off, but it’s absolutely essential in order to keep everyone at the event as safe as possible. Your guest list should be made according to the venue’s space and shouldn’t overreach the specific number that is allowed.
Once you have your guest list taken care of, be sure you organize the space accordingly. The two metres rule still applies, so make sure your tables are spaced out properly to give your attendees comfort and peace of mind. Remember, you should only separate members of different households, so this might come as a relief factor while you’re planning your seating arrangements.
It also is a good idea to discourage physical contact and greetings among your guests, like hugs or handshakes. You can put a sign up as a reminder of this rule.
Frequent handwashing and sanitizing are some of the most powerful ways to battle the pandemic, so a safe Covid 19 gathering should definitely include such products.
Make sure the venue you’re hosting your event in has enough space (and soap) for everyone to be able to comfortably wash their hands upon arrival, and also make sure to have sanitizing stations throughout.
If you don’t or can’t have sanitizing stations, you can always add a disinfectant solution to every table. Another very important thing is to provide proper drying methods. This means disposable napkins on the tables and paper towels in the bathrooms.
One last thing you should have are no-contact trash bins that have a lid on them so your guests can safely dispose of their tissues. Speak to your venue about these necessities as they should be able to provide them.
Buffets and passed hors d’oeuvres are something you should definitely avoid, as are passed-around drinks. Instead, you can go for a family-style or plated dinner, with a meal served to every person individually.
This will leave you with a lot of room to really customize your menu and make the food selection your very own. You can include shared plates of food, like salads or cold cuts on each table, but make sure they’re not passed around.
For drinks, instead of a waiter walking around offering different drinks to people, stick to the traditional method and either have everyone order their drinks directly from the bar or have a selection of different beverages available on each table, with guests helping themselves to whatever it is they want to drink.
For a safe Covid 19 gathering to really be safe, aside from all the above-mentioned measures, you should also make sure the staff working your event are going to be wearing masks.
Talk to your venue manager or event planner to make sure the staff will be wearing masks throughout the whole night, and that the venue has a checking system in place to make sure everyone who arrives at work that day is healthy.
You can also ask your guests to wear masks too, but if you’re holding your event at an outdoor venue, this step might not be necessary if you are already following all the other rules.
However, it would be smart to set up a station where guests’ temperature will be taken upon arrival to ensure everyone is fit to attend and will have a good time!
The rules are really quite simple and they are in place to protect you and your loved ones. They might be something that gets in the way of having an old-fashioned style party, but if we all are careful we’ll be able to have our old normal back soon.
Remember that even though you’re hosting a safe Covid 19 gathering with all these rules in place, you can still have a great time, celebrate, and create special memories with your closest family and friends!
